Year in Review

December 29th, 2009

Wow, what a crazy year?!! It’s happened so quickly that I didn’t even have a chance to sit down and digest it. So, here we go, my review of 2009!

January 9th at 6:59AM was definitely a life changing moment for me. It almost seemed like a lifetime ago. Now, today, Ben’s almost 22lbs, much taller, loves to laugh, and has the grip of Superman.

That’s it. It’s all I remember. The year’s has truly been a blur. Wait, my brother got married this year too in September. We had our first family trip then (10 days in Vancouver).  I’ll have to go back on this site to remember the things that I’ve done or gone through. :-(

So long downtown life! So long Dog Girl!! We’ve moved to the suburban jungle known as Markham! We’re so far from the convenient life of downtown, it’s scary. I look outside our front yard, past the row of townhouses across the street and all you see is farmland as far as the eye can see. We are pretty much at the north east corner of Markham, in the new(er) community of Upper Cornell. Lower Cornell is just over 10 years old. We’re only 3!

What’s around us? Just houses and townhomes. We no longer have the convenience of the 24 hour Metro next door, or the 24 hour Shoppers around the corner, or the Eaton Centre within a 5 minute walk. We also don’t have the subway in the next building, nor do I have to fight rush hour traffic down the DVP anymore. I’ve reduced my commute by almost 50%! What I can do is actually take the bus to work from here. The ride only takes 42 minutes, but I’d have to walk about 20 minutes total to each of the bus stops. At least I have an option if the Jimmy ever breaks down.

What I do have in Markham is lots of grocery stores with awesome prices. Within a 10 minute drive I have a giant Walmart SuperCentre, Loblaws, Metro (also 24 hours), Longos, T&T, and many other grocers competing for my business. The “mall” is also 10 minutes away.

But the best part of Markham, my mom, who is our babysitter, is 10 minutes away! Ben has adjusted nicely to his new home…mainly because he has all the space he could ever want! We’ve pretty much doubled our living space. What are we going to do with all that space? Ben will find something to do with it!

Another awesome site I found, York Region Transits’ trip planner! If I ever need to take the bus anywhere, this is the site that tells me how to get there. I love Markham!
